30 Day Tourist Visa Extension – Essentials

August 19, 2017 By Ali Leave a Comment

30 day tourist visa extension essentials

Here is a quick rundown of what you’ll need for your 30 day tourist visa extension:

  1. Your Passport
  2. Departure Card (TM 6) – This is the little slip of paper they give you when you enter into Thailand at the airport or on the plane, and they sometimes staple it to your passport.
  3. Address of Residence in Thailand, or your hotel address (A business card will suffice). Note: If you are staying with friends, you have to update your address at a police station to make your stay legit. When you stay at a hotel, they are already required to report your address to the proper authorities.
  4. Your Phone Number
  5. Passport Sized Photo. 4x6cm. Not older than 6 months. (Don’t assume that the extra passport photos from your country will automatically work for this. The size requirements might be different. If you’re from the States like me, your photos from back home will not work for Thai photo requirements. They have shops where you can get your photos printed before you go to the Immigration office, or they also have small shop(s) set up right next to the Immigration Office that can take care of this for you on site.)
  6. Photocopy of the main page of your passport
  7. Photocopy of the Thai Visa page & stamp page on your passport
  8. Photocopy of your Departure Card
  9. Visa Extension Fee: 1900 Baht (about $56 USD)
  10. Pen (There’s a good chance they won’t have pens there, so make sure you take a blue or black ink pen with you)
  11. Tourist Visa Extension Application Form (TM 7) – Fill out this form when you get to the Immigration Office. They have a whole stack of them by the main window or out on a table. (They used to have this form available for you to be able to download, but seems like they’ve gotten rid of that option since the last time I did it in Chiang Mai.)

Visa Extension Tips

Tips: Please note that Thai Immigration rules and regulations can change often and you may want to visit the Immigration Office a few extra days before your passport expires to allow for a few days of cushion just in case you have to go back.

Also, check for Thai Holidays so you don’t go to the Immigration Office on a day they are closed!

If you want to read about my experience from the Chiang Mai Immigration Office when I had to get my 30 day extension, check out this post.

Good luck and happy travels!
