Goodbye Portland – On the Road

January 18, 2016 By Johnny Leave a Comment

We’re a bit overdue for an update. We hit the road at the beginning of January to visit our families before we leave the country. Needless to say, we’ve been too busy to sit down and write about it.

Goodbye Portland

December – Goodbye Portland

In our last update, we talked about selling all of our stuff. Moving out of our apartment a month before we left Portland was the best decision we could make. I’m so glad that we didn’t have to deal with that during the holiday rush at the end of December. It likely would have been disastrous.

I finished up my classes and bootcamps, and Ali stopped working as well during the week before Christmas.

The month leading up to that point was pretty much a waiting game.

We Got Married

The Monday following Christmas, we had a low-key wedding ceremony with a few of our closest friends. Afterwards, we treated them to one of the best dinners I’ve ever had at Imperial Restaurant in Portland. If you’re ever looking for a first class dinner in that city, I would highly recommend that place.

We Threw A Party

Later that week, on the night before New Year’s Eve, we threw a party where we would have one last hurrah with all of our Portland besties.

Then, we celebrated New Year’s with some Netflix at a friend’s bed and breakfast, A Painted Lady Inn, and then slipped out of Portland quietly on the 3rd of January.

Goodbye Portland! I had the time of my life in Portland. I love that city. I made some of the best friends I’ll ever have there.

St. Louis

First stop after Portland was St. Louis, where I grew up. We had a great time catching up with my family and friends. We took in the Arch, the St. Louis Art Museum, and a statue of the tallest man that ever lived.

It’s always too long between visits to my parents and siblings, so it was so good to hang out with them for nine whole days!

I also taught a couple of yoga classes at Studio Gaia in Edwardsville, Illinois.

California

At the time of this writing, we’re half way through a stay in Orange County visiting Ali’s family and friends. I got to drop into a yoga class with my teacher Noah Mazé, at YogaGlo, as well as take a yoga workshop at my friend’s yoga studio in Huntington Beach – Underground Yoga.

We’ve gone to the Getty, and we’re planning a day at Joshua Tree, and just enjoying a little bit of January in California. Ali’s family has taken well to me, and I’m truly fortunate to have such loving in-laws added to my life.

That’s the cliff notes version our update. Wish us luck!
