Expats: 8 Miles From Home

8 Miles From Home

During the time that we’ve been planning and researching our move, we’ve found some great bloggers doing something similar to what we plan to do. We’d like to feature some of these influences on our blog, and first up is 8 Miles From Home.

8 Miles From Home are Sacha & Jmayel El-Haj, and their dog Eden. They are professional photographers/videographers from the United Kingdom. They live in the northern Thailand city of Chiang Rai.

Take a few minutes to watch the video above if you haven’t already. They combine their amazing videography skills with some poetry, and the result is very moving. The scenes that they capture are breathtaking, and make me instantly want to travel there and see these locations for myself!

In 2012, they found themselves bored with their life in England, and decided to do something about it. They moved to Thailand. As professional videographers, they create a cinematic travel web series about their adventures that they feature on their blog.

Through these mini films, they are using their creativity to sustain a life that they could never have imagined possible. They are now closer than ever to achieving true location independence, by building a mixed online income from selling stock photography & video clips, creating YouTube videos and recommending Pet Friendly Hotels and accommodation through their blog.

Definitely check out their series of videos that show real life behind the scenes as young expats in Thailand. ‘A Day In The Life’. It’s a real glimpse into the weird and wonderful world that opens up to you when you take a chance and follow your dreams.

They are definitely good at what they do, and watching their videos really inspire me to pull this off for myself as well. Living a life outside the ordinary, and creating a lifestyle of your choosing is achievable if you are willing to work for it, and act upon making it happen.
